For three years he has hosted Fresh from the Garden on the DIY Network. There he was responsible for maintaining a picture-perfect garden with the premise of taking vegetables from seed to harvest in a single episode. Fifty-two shows later there were no other vegetables left to profile!
Joe currently hosts GardenSMART on PBS television. While he misses the opportunity to get his hands in the dirt, he is able to “dig” into spectacular gardens around the country and profile the dedicated gardeners who nurture them.
His lifelong love of gardening led to the founding of The joe gardener Company® an organization dedicated to bringing smart eco-friendly resources for better gardening to novices as well as seasoned veterans. Joe practices and began promoting healthy living along with environmental stewardship long before “being green” was popular.
As a way to communicate this message world-wide and as a natural extension of the organization, joegardener.com was developed. Utilizing “rich media” the website features audio and video blogs, podcasts, downloadable “how-to” demonstrations and award winning photography.
Joe is a Master Gardener, Certified Landscape Professional, author, syndicated columnist, speaker/presenter, national television host, and radio personality. Through his role as a professional garden communicator, Joe is constantly on the cutting edge of horticultural information, conveying it to others through all forms of media.
Also a prolific writer, Joe pens a weekly syndicated newspaper column, a plethora of informative articles for his website, blog, and a variety of magazines, as well his latest book, Over the Fence with joe gardener in which he devotes much of its content to the all important “why-do” behind the “how-to” of our gardening lifestyle today.
Joe lives and gardens in North Carolina with his wife and 2 young daughters where he is currently working on his next book The ‘GREEN’ Gardener’s Guide; Hundreds of tips for Creating an Eco-friendly Garden”.
